Dear Pro-Life Friends:
Please Help Place Randall Terry's Name on the Pennsylvania Ballot as a Third-Party Candidate for President in the November 5, 2024 General Election
Summary of Help Needed
1. Participate in a Conference Call with Randy on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM. The call-in number is 945-218-0128. The passcode is 3922025.
2. Attend a Kickoff Rally for Randall's campaign on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM on Independence Mall.
3. Collect signatures from Primary Election Day, April 23, 2024 to July 31, 2024. The filing deadline in Pa. for Third-Party Candidates is the first Monday in August, i.e., August 5, 2024.
Reasons for this Effort
1. To persuade fellow citizens, especially Christians, not to vote for Joe Biden because of his intense and relentless support for killing children in the womb.
2. To use federal election law - and the intense focus on the 2024 Presidential Election - to show our fellow citizens 30-second television ads that vividly portray the beauty of life in the womb and the deadly brutality of abortion. Our movement, I believe, needs this effort to counter the discouragement and harm of our losing six "abortion referenda" since the June 24, 2022 Dobbs decision.
3. To encourage - and set an example for - Pa. pro-life Republican candidates to fight back, to the inevitable "abortion attack ads" that their Democrat opponents and/or pro-abortion organizations will run against them. We have recently witnessed two such candidates with adequate resources, i.e., Mehmet Oz for U.S. Senate in 2022 and Carolyn Carluccio for Pa. Supreme Court in 2023, fail to counter these ads and to attack their Democrat opponents for their support for legal taxpayer-funded abortion until birth. Instead, these candidates adopted an "ostrich strategy" and only ran additional (and ineffective) "soft on crime" ads against their Democrat opponents.
Context for this Effort
1. Biden's pro-abortion record - Almost every American supportive of the pro-life movement is well aware of this extensive and deadly record.
2. Our 2020 efforts to persuade Pa. Catholics not to vote for Biden proved effective. A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette poll showed that all Pa. Catholics voted for Donald Trump over Biden by 52-47%, which was an improvement over the 2016 49-48% result.
3. Public opinion remains about 25% "pro-life," 25% "pro-choice," and 50% "mushy middle," which, in effect, support for legal abortion only in the "hard cases" and/or "early in pregnancy."
Prior to Dobbs, the pro-life movement had lost all state referenda in which voters perceived the issue as an "abortion ban," such as in Colorado, Mississippi (a "personhood" referenda), New Mexico, South Dakota and in the City of Bristol, Connecticut. Prior to Dobbs, the pro-life movement has won state referenda only in Tennessee and West Virginia, where the issue was reversing a State Supreme Court decision mandating State Medicaid funding for abortions.
However, post-Dobbs state referenda results have demonstrated that a majority of the mushy middle, when perceived with a choice between an "abortion ban" or legalizing abortion until birth, will support the latter. Distortions by the media and medical professionals (being "out-white-coated"), along with a strong advantage in the "air game" have contributed significantly to these state referenda results.
Nevertheless, the pro-life movement's not using our most effective educational tool has also contributed to these negative state referenda results. This tool is the use of abortion victim photos. The phrase, "Americans will not reject abortion until they see abortion" summarizes the effectiveness of these images.
The Opportunity and the Obligation to Show Our Fellow Citizens Photos of the Victims of Abortion
I agree that the use of such photos sometimes initially generates some opposition to the pro-life movement and/or position. However, the use of such photos generates far more opposition to abortion.
Please remember that every successful movement against injustice in our nation (slavery, segregation, boys working in coal mines, and others) have used graphic images to generate action to end the injustice.
Setting an Example and Our Own Consistency
We have rightfully complained that Pa. pro-life Republican candidates (e.g., Mehmet oz in 2022 and Carolyn Carluccio in 2023) have not countered the plethora of pro-abortion attack ads against them. We believe that these candidates should be calling attention to their pro-abortion Democrat opponents' support for legal taxpayer-funded abortion until birth.
Our use of Abortion Victim Photos Ads will encourage these pro-life candidates, to attack their pro-abortion opponents. Our ads with Abortion Victim Photos will make pro-life candidates' ads much more "acceptable."
Also, please consider how we currently consider those media outlets who are intentionally suppressing the photos of the victims of the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas. Also, in history, how do we consider those media outlets who refused to show the victims of the Holocaust? We, the leaders of the pro-life movement, have an obligation to seek justice by showing the photos of the victims of abortion.
Please Watch the Ads
A succinct and highly persuasive argument for this effort is to watch these proposed 30-second television ads, which are available at www.Terry2024.com.
Overall Strategy and Why Pennsylvania
This strategy is to run these anti-Biden ads in Media Markets that cover swing States, which include Pa. So, Randy being on the ballot in New Jersey (which is relatively easy) would enable the running of these ads in eastern Pa. However, Randy needs to be on the Pa. ballot to run these anti-Biden ads in Central and Western Pa.
The States that Randy is planning to place his name on the ballot as a Third-Party Presidential candidate include the following.
Arkansas
Idaho
Iowa
Louisiana
Mississippi
New Jersey
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Tennessee
Utah
Vermont
Virginia
Wisconsin
Federal Election Law
Federal law prohibits local broadcast television and radio stations from declining to run ads from a candidate for federal office because of content.
Federal law also prohibits national television and radio stations from declining to run ads from a Presidential Candidate because of content if the candidate is on the ballot in at least ten States.
Pennsylvania Signature Requirements
The requirements to be on the ballot as a Third-Party Presidential candidate in the General Election is the same as the requirement for a Democrat or a Republican candidate to be on the Primary Election ballot, i.e., 2,000 signatures, which can be any registered voter.
Experience, Schedule, and Non-Impact
In the 2012 General Election, Randy succeeded in running such ads in some States as a Presidential candidate and on behalf of some local U.S. House candidates.
After the February 15, 2024 Kickoff Rally, I expect to schedule, prior to the April 23, 2024 Primary Election, a statewide conference call for those willing to further support this effort. Support for this effort could also be a part of a proposed pro-life event at our State Capitol, sometime from April-June 2024.
A possible objection to this effort is that it will take votes away from Trump (or any other Republican nominee) in the November 5, 2024 General Election. I believe that this objection is not valid because
- these abortion victim photo ads attack Biden in an effort to persuade viewers not to vote for Biden. They specifically say, "Do not vote for Biden."; and
- these ads do not urge pro-life citizens to vote for Randall Terry. In fact, they never say, "Vote for Randall Terry." They simply say, "Vote for anyone beside Biden!"
